FAQs
Roofing FAQs for Friendswood Homeowners
Straight answers to common questions about estimates, repairs, replacement, materials, inspections, storm damage and maintenance.
Many answers depend on your roof. Condition, materials, insurance policy and the details of your project all affect what applies to you. An inspection is the only way to confirm what your roof needs.
Estimates & scheduling
How do I request a roofing estimate?
Call us or fill out the estimate form on this site. Tell us your name, a phone number, your address or ZIP code, the service you need and a short description of what you are seeing. Email is optional. We will follow up to ask any questions and arrange a time to look at the roof.
What information helps you prepare an accurate estimate?
Describe what you have noticed and where, when it started, whether water is coming inside, the approximate age of the roof if you know it and the roofing material. Photos taken safely from the ground or inside the house are helpful. Our Roofing Project Planner can organize these details for you.
Is the estimate a final price?
A written estimate describes the scope and price based on what can be seen during the inspection. Some conditions, such as damaged decking under the existing roof, cannot be confirmed until materials are removed. A clear estimate explains how those items are handled and priced before work starts.
How soon can you schedule my project?
Scheduling depends on the type of work, material availability, current demand and the weather. We will give you an expected timeframe when we provide your estimate, and we will keep you informed if weather shifts the schedule.
Do I need to be home for the estimate visit?
Not always for an exterior look, but it helps. If we need to check the attic or interior water stains, someone will need to be home to let us in.
Repairs & replacement
How do I know whether my roof needs repair or replacement?
It depends on how widespread the problem is and the condition of the rest of the roof. Isolated damage on an otherwise sound roof can usually be repaired. Widespread wear, repeated leaks in different places or damaged decking often point toward replacement. An inspection gives you the facts for your specific roof.
Can a leak be fixed without replacing the whole roof?
Often, yes. Many leaks come from a specific failure, such as a cracked pipe boot, loose flashing or a few damaged shingles. Finding and fixing the source is usually much less expensive than replacement.
How long does a roof replacement take?
Many homes are completed in a few working days, but size, complexity, decking repairs, material delivery and weather all affect the timeline. Your estimate will include an expected schedule.
Will you remove my old roof or install over it?
We generally recommend removing the existing roof so the deck can be inspected and repaired. Installing over an old roof hides problems and may conflict with manufacturer or local requirements.
Materials
What roofing materials do you work with?
Our services focus on asphalt shingle roofing, including dimensional and impact-resistant shingles, and metal roofing, including standing seam and exposed-fastener panels. We can discuss which option fits your home, budget and goals.
Are architectural shingles better than three-tab shingles?
Architectural, or dimensional, shingles are thicker and more textured, and manufacturers typically rate them for higher wind resistance than basic three-tab shingles. They are now the more common choice for re-roofing, but exact ratings depend on the product.
Is a metal roof worth the extra cost?
It can be if you plan to stay in your home a long time and value durability and wind performance. It may not pay off if you expect to move soon. Our comparison article walks through the trade-offs, and we can price both materials for your roof.
Do impact-resistant shingles lower insurance premiums?
Some insurers offer discounts for qualifying impact-resistant roofing, but it depends on your insurer and policy. Ask your insurance company directly before choosing materials based on a discount.
Inspections & storm damage
What does a roof inspection include?
We check the roof surface, flashing, vents, edges and drainage, and the attic when it is accessible. You receive photos and a plain-language explanation of what we found, plus a written estimate if work is needed.
Should I get my roof inspected after a storm?
If a storm brought strong wind, hail or falling debris, an inspection is a sensible precaution because damage is not always visible from the ground. Stay off the roof yourself and keep notes and photos of what you notice.
Can you handle my insurance claim?
We can document roof damage with photos and provide a written scope you can share with your insurer. We do not act as a public adjuster, negotiate claims or promise coverage. Coverage decisions belong to your insurance company.
Will you pay or waive my insurance deductible?
No. Texas law prohibits contractors from paying, waiving or rebating a homeowner's insurance deductible.
Do I need a windstorm inspection for roofing work in Friendswood?
It depends on your property and coverage. Part of Friendswood is in Galveston County, which is within the Texas Department of Insurance designated catastrophe area. If your home is insured, or may be insured, through the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association (TWIA), roofing work may need a windstorm inspection. Check with your insurer or agent before work begins.
Maintenance
How often should my roof be maintained?
A yearly professional check is a reasonable baseline for many homes, ideally before hurricane season, with extra checks after severe storms. Homes with older roofs or heavy tree cover may need more frequent attention.
What can I check myself without getting on the roof?
Look at the roof from the ground with binoculars, watch ceilings for stains, check the attic with a flashlight for daylight or damp wood, and keep gutters flowing. Do not walk on the roof; leave that to professionals with proper safety equipment.
Are dark streaks on my shingles a problem?
Dark streaks are commonly caused by algae in humid climates and are mostly cosmetic. Avoid high-pressure washing, which can remove protective granules, and mention the streaks during your next inspection.
